Pueblan Milk Snake

Lampropeltis triangulum campbelli

rebel

Names and Personal History:
Rebel: Rebel was found by firemen in an empty apartment hiding under a dish drainer next to the sink. Rebel's sex is unknown and is approximately 10 years old as of 2009.

Native Habitat:
Pueblan Milk Snakes range throughout the southern part of the Puebla region into eastern Morelos and the north of Oaxaca.

Environment:
Pueblan Milk Snakes tend to be a very secretive snake, hiding for most of the day under logs and rocks to avoid the hotter temperatures. They venture out at night to hunt for prey.

Physical Characteristics:
Pueblan Milk Snakes closely resemble the venomous Coral Snake which also has red, yellow/white, and black banding. The Milk Snakes bands of color are in a different order, leading to various rhymes like "Red touches yellow, kill a fellow. Red touches black, won't hurt jack." However, this only applies in North America and cannot be relied upon anywhere else.

Diet:
Milk Snakes will eat a variety of prey items from mice and small rats to frogs, lizards, and other snakes, including venomous ones. They are partially immune to the bite of their local venomous snakes.
