Mountain Lake park
Tree Frog Treks is back for another summer of Wild Science at Mountain Lake Park with Full-Day Camps available! During each camp session, campers will meet live animals, perform fun experiments and build connections and critical thinking skills through adventuring in nature with peers and instructors. Come meet Blondie the Burmese Python, Trucker the Tortoise, Watermelon the Asian Water Dragon, and Jumpy the White’s Tree Frog - to name some of our nearly 100 Animal Ambassadors! We play games and tell stories to bring many unseen aspects of our urban habitats to life for our campers. We Wander and Wonder Together!
Summer 2024 Camp Themes
Four Eyed Frogs
Hindsight X2! Looking towards a more beautiful world for me and you!
Evolution Revolution! Flipping stones and analyzing bones, biologists seek answers from all the biomes. In search of ecotones, we’ll visit forests, grasslands and tidal zones to uncover amazing innovations made by nature to survive and adapt to changing habitats. As animals, we too are in need of solutions, and looking to the past to help us today will fuel the evolution revolution. Get on the bus and learn what we must, to protect biodiversity. All of earth’s organisms can add to the story.
Potions in Motion! There’s Magic in the mysteries of chemistry! From color range to phase change, potions in motion will be a wild ride and a deep dive. We’ll make a splash around town and drop eggs to the ground. This is a session to experiment with slime and get icky sticky with gak; to mix and match kitchen safe chemistry and watch it go splat. Imagination and play make for great summer days, zooming on brooms and observing cocoons. Tree Froggers know how to find magic in nature, and owls in the trees, and do experiments with temperature measuring each degree.
Survivor FROG! Far Reaching, Outrageous & Green! Learning from nature how to survive and thrive, Tree Froggers rise to the occasion. We’ll explore nature in the city and learn which plants we can eat, where other animals sleep, and how far we can leap. Frogs and toads are prey animals with adaptations to survive. An ecosystem with lots of frogs is healthy and alive. This session, our goal is to be bold, grow our community, and go with the flow. SHARE WHAT YOU KNOW SO THE WORLD CAN GROW!
Biodiversity Bonanza! Water and Light make life possible down here on our planet’s surface. From deep seas to the tops of the tallest tree canopies, the study of life is called biology. Why are there so many species? To answer that we need our thinking caps, we’ll look high and low through all the biomes. During this session of San Francisco summer science, we’ll strive to uncover some of the secrets of ecosystems. How can so many organisms live in them. Our bodies need proteins, carbohydrates and sugars to give us the energy to run, while plants get theirs from the sun. Beautiful biodiversity supports the needs of all living things under our atmosphere, it’s a bonanza out there and there’s nothing to fear!
Carbon Kids! Calling all Carbon Kids! We’ll use our powers to unite the world in imagining a fossil-fuel-free-future! Imagination and Innovation during a San Francisco Play-cation! Looking high and low for where energy comes from and where it goes, from ATP made in our cells to fuels that propel rockets themselves. This is a session to completely compost old ideas about carbon, plant a tree, collect energy from the sun and work together to Save, Preserve, and Maintain our home!
Mountain Lake camps run from from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, for rising 1st - 6th graders.
